Opus Making Plans For Radisson Red Hotel In Downtown St. Paul

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The company behind the Radisson Red hotel slated to be in downtown Minneapolis is making plans to build a counterpart on the other side of the Twin Cities, officials announced Monday in a news release.

Officials with Opus Development Co. and Greco, in conjunction with the city of St. Paul, have announced that they are working with Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group out of Minnetonka to develop a 150-room hotel in downtown St. Paul. City officials selected Opus and Greco, based in Minneapolis, in the fall of 2014 to develop land near Xcel Energy Center called the Seven Corners Gateway.

The hotel will have a bar, deli and work spaces as well as places for socializing. It’ll be located across from Xcel Energy Center and bounded by Smith Avenue, Kellogg Boulevard and West Seventh and Fifth Streets. The overall plan for the Seven Corners Gateway site also includes market-rate multi-family homes, retail and public spaces and a plaza.

The Radisson Red hotel planned for construction in downtown Minneapolis will be located near U.S. Bank Stadium, the new home of the Minnesota Vikings. The new Vikings stadium is slated to be open in the summer of 2016. That hotel is part of the Downtown East project, being developed by Ryan Companies, Inc.

A timetable for the construction of the hotel has not been set.
