Burlington developer hosts opening of 2 downtown DM hotels Thursday

Hawkeye Hotels Inc. has scheduled a grand opening at 4:30 p.m. Thursday for side-by-side properties it developed in downtown Des Moines, the first new hotel construction downtown since the 1990s. The Waterfront Hampton Inn and Suites and Residence Inn on the 100 block of Southwest Water Street bring a total of 256 rooms to the city. Hawkeye Hotels President Ravi Patel said today that the company plans to build two more hotels downtown and will develop additional properties in Greater Des Moines.
