Crews top off JW Marriott hotel at Mall of America

Mortenson Construction placed the final beam on top of what will be a 15-level JW Marriott luxury hotel attached to the Mall of America in Bloomington.

The 342-room hotel will have a full-service restaurant and bar, a grand lobby, a fitness center, pool, meeting space and a grand ballroom. It's a $105 million project.

The hotel's developer is Mortenson and it's owned by Hotel Development LLC, an arm of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. Marriott International will manage the property.

Marriott named the management team this week. Lars Danneberg will be general manager. He's had stops at several Ritz-Carltons across the U.S. and in the Caribbean. He was also director of operations for JW Marriott Chicago when it opened.

Amy Shahin is director of hotel sales. She had been area sales leader overseeing four Marriott International-managed hotels in Minneapolis, Eden Prairie, Minnetonka and Mendota Heights.

The hotel is on schedule for a November opening. Reservations will be taken beginning May 1.
