Treasure Island Casino owners buy I-94 parcel in first Twin Cities land deal

The Prairie Island Indian Community, which owns the Treasure Island Resort & Casino, has bought a 112-acre parcel near Woodbury in what is the tribe's first real estate purchase in the Twin Cities.

The Pioneer Press reports on the $4.4 million deal for the land, at the junction of Interstate 94 and Manning Avenue in West Lakeland Township. The parcel borders Lake Elmo and Woodbury.

Tribal Council President Shelley Buck said the group wasn't planning to build a casino there but didn't give many other details on plans.

She did note that one of the reasons for the purchase was the continued presence of a nuclear-storage site near its Red Wing reservation land. “We want to invest in land in a place that is safer.”
