"High End" Brand In Line For Major Sioux City Hotel Renovation

Where do you have friends stay when they come to Sioux City? There are many options to choose from, but The Sioux City Hotel is probably not at the top of your list. But some impending major renovations might change your mind after a "high-end brand" checks in.

The Sioux City Hotel was built in the early 70s and since then, it hasn't received many improvements - something which city leaders like Mayor Bob Scott recognize. "New carpet on some of the floors would be a vast improvement, right? But the physical plan there needs to change a lot. You know, the rooms are somewhat outdated. The mechanical systems are more than outdated."

But they also recognize that a modernized Hotel could signal a significant boost for the local economy. The Sioux City Hotel is in close proximity to the Sioux City Convention Center and is even connected via skywalk. Marty Dougherty, the Sioux City Economic Development Director, says, "It's important to the city, it's important to the community and the taxpayers that the convention center do well. And obviously a large hotel connected to it is a key element."

It may take as much as six to seven million dollars to get the hotel completely renovated. The winning brand name will be announced by the end of September.
