Rome hopes for hole-in-one

ROME (WKOW) - People  in a small town in central Wisconsin are hoping a new golf resort will turn things around there.

The Town of Rome has been chosen by developers to be home of the Sand Valley Golf Resort.

Like many other rural Wisconsin communities, property values never recovered from the Great Recession.

Rome leaders see an immediate, and a long-range benefit from the new resort.

"They'll see the quality of life and the inexpensive property and the beautiful lake homes and they will want to stay here and come back and have a place of their own here," said Town of Rome supervisor Rick Bakovka.

The resort in Rome will be a 36-hole layout in an area that includes a lake.

The first course is set up to open in July 2017; the second, the following spring.
