$90 million Fitzsimons hotel-conference center project to break ground soon

A $90 million Hyatt hotel and conference center at Fitzsimons Village in Aurora will break ground on Sept. 17.

The development is the next phase in the Fitzsimons Village development and will include a full-service, 249-room Hyatt hotel and a 30,000-square-feet conference center.

Fitzsimons Village is a mixed-use project being developed by the city of Aurora and Corporex Colorado LLC. The first phase of the project broke ground in 2010.

"There has been a need for a hotel and conference center to accommodate the activity at the Anschutz Medical Campus and Fitzsimons Life Science District, and we are proud to partner with the city to build something that will be transformational to the area," said Mark Witkiewicz, chief operating officer of Corporex Colorado.

The site is home to several health care facilities including Children's Hospital Colorado, University of Colorado Hospital and the Veterans Affairs Hospital.

"Many of our patients and their families travel great distances for the nationally-recognized, specialized pediatric care that we offer," said Jim Shmerling, CEO of Children's Hospital Colorado.

"Nearly one in 10 hospitalized patients we treat come to us from outside Colorado. The new hotel and conference center will be a welcoming place to patients and families during potentially difficult times," he added.
