Gemstone Hotels & Resorts today announced the company has been selected as the management company for the Garden of the Gods Club and Resort in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The country club and resort recently were acquired by an LLC led by local business owners and long time club members Judy Mackey and Brenda Smith. With the acquisition, the new owners announced that the resort will undergo a multi-million dollar upgrade which will feature transforming the existing spa into a combined wellness center and full-service spa. The new wellness center will focus on proactive health care integrating both physicians and homeopathic practitioners taking full advantage of the inspirational setting overlooking the world famous Garden of the Gods Park, acclaimed for its magnificent rock formations and serene atmosphere. The $6 million phase one renovation includes upgrades to the 84 oversized guest rooms and suites, improvements to the food and beverage operations and the enhancement of the meeting and catering facilities—including the addition of a new outdoor wedding garden and cliffside ceremony site.

"The Garden of the Gods Club was developed long ago by the Hill family from Texas who truly appreciated the restorative powers of this magnificent setting, the fresh Colorado air and time spent with friends and family," said Brenda Smith.

According to co-owner Judy Mackey, "Gemstone shares that vision for our club and resort and will help us elevate the level of service and accommodations to match our incomparable surroundings and our members' expectations. The Gemstone team has decades of experience managing one-of-a-kind resorts, and I am certain that the future success of our club is in very good hands."

"Garden of the Gods Club has a long history of catering to an exclusive clientele and discerning members, offering the very best in recreational facilities, dining and lodging," said Thomas Prins, principal of Gemstone. "The plan to elevate the spa experience to a unique wellness center meshes brilliantly with the needs and desires of the club's existing and future membership, as well as creating a place for wellness that will put the Garden of the Gods Club and Resort on the international travel landscape for years to come."

"We are very gratified and extremely proud to add this magnificent resort to our portfolio of luxury and upscale resorts and feel confident that we can quickly grow the club's membership base while introducing the resort to wellness-focused travelers who appreciate a sophisticated vacation experience," said Jeff McIntyre, Gemstone principal.

In addition to the resort's 27 holes of championship golf complete with a driving range, practice green and pro shop, recreational facilities also include 13 tennis courts (two indoor), with a full-time on-site USPTA professional, a full-service tennis shop and an outdoor spa with an adjacent infinity pool that is heated year round. The club's recreation center includes a family pool, children's spray pool, basketball court, a game room, snack bar, casual party room, cabanas and lockers. The resort also is home to the 4,900 square foot Sports Club, Colorado Springs' premier fitness club. Dining options include a country club-style dining room, The Kissing Camels Grille, named for the famous nearby rock formation, and a fine dining experience in the main Clubhouse building as well. The club also has 8,000 square feet of meeting space, making it a superb location for corporate meetings and retreats, weddings, reunions and other upscale social occasions.
