Graves is working with InterContinental on Minneapolis airport hotel

The 300-room luxury hotel at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport will be branded an InterContinental.

Minneapolis-based developer Graves Hospitality said it has not yet signed a franchise agreement with InterContinental Hotel Group, but has worked through terms with the company.

Graves also released renderings of the interior of the hotel, including a ballroom with dinner seating for 1,000, a spa, restaurant and skyway connection to the airport with its own security line. It will also have a 12th-floor “Observation Bar” where people can sip cocktails and watch planes take off and land.

CEO Ben Graves said the company is pushing for a July groundbreaking and is planning an aggressive construction schedule to open in time for the February 2018 Super Bowl.

The architect is Minneapolis-based RSP Architects and the contractor is Burnsville-based PCL Construction Services.

Graves already has experience with the brand, as it manages the InterContinental St. Paul Riverfront for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe.

InterContinental is the top brand for InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, which also has Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza, among others.

“Based on our experience, we know that the InterContinental brand is the perfect fit” for the airport Graves said in a press release. “We are excited to establish a new, signature destination with an ultra luxury flagship property, which will become the crown jewel of our already exceptional MSP Airport.”
