Hudson may soon get a second new hotel

With work underway on one new hotel in Hudson, Wis., the city may soon get another.

GrandStay Hospitality is proposing a four-story, 70-room hotel and event center on Badger Drive. The city's leadership gave initial approval for the project earlier this month.

GrandStay has not yet filed for a building permit with the city, said Community Development Director Dennis Darnold.

John Berdusco, managing partner for franchisee Hudson GSRS, said they were still working out some issues. There is no estimate for how much the hotel and 200-person event center will cost, and no timeline for construction to begin, Berdusco said.

Hudson residents have expressed interest in additional hotels in the city, Darnold said. Hudson has six hotels.

Work on a nearby Hampton Inn & Suites began last month. The 83-room Pearson Drive hotel is scheduled to open in the fall of 2016. Both hotels would be located in Hudson's commercial district off Interstate 94's Carmichael Road exit.
