Plans for UW-Eau Claire events center move forward

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Just over a year ago, UW-Eau Claire announced its plans for the space on Menomonie Street. Those involved with the planning surveyed cities in the Midwest that are about the same size as Eau Claire to see what works with their events centers.

The key phrase they found is multi-use. The university is also studying facilities like Bollinger Fields and McPhee to see if those meet the needs of students and if not, how the new center could.

The Eau Claire YMCA and Visit Eau Claire have promised to partner with the university on the project.

"When we're talking about a major event facility we're not talking about your traditional area that has fixed seating," UW-Eau Claire's Mike Rindo said. "What we really want is a facility can host many different kinds of events and is easily reconfigured."

Surveyors looked at how big the events center might be, what events would be held there and how many people would use it.
