Regulators approve $18.5 million to remodel Iowa casino

Prairie Meadows Racetrack, Casino & Hotel

State regulators have approved an $18.5 million remodeling project at the Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Altoona, Iowa.

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission made the decision Tuesday for a 50,000-square-foot renovation that will begin early next year and run through May 2015.

The renovation is the fourth phase in an overhaul at the complex that began in 2010. It includes upgrades to the casino floor, concessions and bar areas.

A Prairie Meadows official says the casino in Polk County would pay renovation costs as they arise in an effort to avoid additional debt.
