The Ritz-Carlton Goes to Sea

By Leo Jakobson | June 22, 2017 The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company announced today that it is entering the luxury cruise market with a 151-suite yacht which will enter service in late 2019.

The lavish, 625-foot vessel will accommodate 298 passengers in 149 balcony suites and two 1,500-square-foot duplex penthouses. Two more vessels will follow.

The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection's vessels will offer seven- to 10-day excursions to a number of destinations throughout the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, the Caribbean, and Latin America, including a number of ports too small for traditional cruise ships. These include Capri and Portfino, Italy; the French Caribbean island of St. Barts; and the old town of Cartagena, Colombia. The trips will include overnight stays in some ports of call to allow a richer destination experience. Private charters will also be available.

Pointing to The Ritz-Carlton's reputation for outstanding service and high standards, Lars Clasen, a managing director of The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, promised that the vessels would provide, "the most exclusive yachting experience to be found at sea in a venture that will give new meaning to curated luxury travel."

The ultra-luxurious amenities on board will include a restaurant by Sven Elverfeld, the three Michelin-starred chef behind Aqua at The Ritz-Carlton, Wolfsburg, in Germany; a signature Ritz-Carlton Spa; and the Panorama Lounge and wine bar, which will play host to a wide range of on-board entertainment. The curated destination experiences will include "collaborations with local chefs, musicians, and artists, allowing guests to experience the locations in unique and experiential ways, both onboard and ashore," the company said in a release.
