Colorado Event Venues: Updates, Renovations and New Spaces

The state's high-plains cities anticipate big meeting space growth.

A number of hotels, conference venues and other event spaces throughout Colorado are getting upgraded. For example, both Denver and Colorado Springs are looking to expand their various arenas and conference venues in the near future.

In 2015, Denver voters approved a project to renovate the Colorado Convention Center, but construction still hasn't begun. "We just hit a snag in one phase of our expansion process that we hope will be resolved shortly," says Richard W. Scharf, president and CEO of Visit Denver. "The great news is that we have all of the funding secured and have a full-time architect designing our new rooftop ballroom and multifunctional space, with input from over 100 meeting professionals."

The Denver convention center upgrade will add:

An extra 80,000 square feet of meeting space
100,000 square feet of event space
Including a 50,000-square-foot rooftop terrace with mountain views,
    Technology upgrades revamped networking spaces.

In Colorado Springs, the 784-room Broadmoor, which already offers 185,000 square feet of meeting space, has asked for city approval to add a 150,000-square-foot exhibit hall. If construction can start this year, the new space could be available by April 2020 for the property's largest event, the Space Symposium. The Broadmoor won gold in 2018 as Best Hotel/Resort in the Southwest from the Stella Awards, given out by Northstar Meetings Group, the parent of Successful Meetings.

Here are the other event venue updates taking place in and around the Centennial State.
