Como Park Pavilion gets third restaurant operator in three years

Spring Cafe, the restaurant inside the Como Park Pavilion, will operate under the third ownership in as many years when it reopens in the spring.

Matty O’Reilly, owner of Bar Brigade, Republic, Delicata and Red River at City House, has sold the operation to Lancer Catering. Before O’Reilly took over in 2018, the restaurant was Como Dockside, which served low-country fare.

O’Reilly also sold Red River Kitchen food trucks, which operate at City House on the river, to Lancer.

Lancer, which runs the food-service operations at the Como Zoo, the Minnesota Zoo and the Science Museum of Minnesota among others, said through a spokesperson that the company plans “to continue many of the same menu selections in the Red River Kitchen tradition, while our culinary teams develop additional offerings to enrich the menu and experiences.”

Lancer will also continue to schedule music and events that have historically been held at the pavilion, the spokesperson said.

As for O’Reilly, he is currently out of the country, but sent an email explaining the sale. It read, in part: “It was a conscious decision to downsize once my MBA program was finished so I can focus on a bunch of other things. I wrap up school in May, so the timing is great for me. … I wanted summers off, so I could spend quality time with (my kids) and my wife, so the timing is amazing … and now I’m free to do a number of new things, travel a little and free up some valuable headspace.”
