Grand View Lodge is planning to bring a 60-room "boutique hotel" to Brainerd Lakes by next spring.

The Nisswa resort, on the shores of Gull Lake, has announced on Monday it's embarking on a major, $30 million expansion that will include the opening of a hotel, called "North," by next May.

Grand View is already in the process of building 2 new residential developments, which will see 20 vacation homes at "Fairway Pines" and 21 four-bedroom properties called "The Garden Course Cottages" added to its portfolio.

When completed, Grand View Lodge says it will boast 269 cottages, vacation homes and hotel rooms that between them can accommodate up to 1,500 guests – claiming it will make it the largest resort in Minnesota.

The North hotel will be the centerpiece, located close to the main lodge and its activities hub.

Designed by Brainerd architects Nor-Son, it's described as an "urban take on the traditional guest lodge," complete with a 5,000 square foot conference room and breakfast area.

The wider expansion will include the building of a new wedding chapel, a new recreation center and upgrades to its spa facilities.

The spa will get eight new treatment rooms as well as a year-round outdoor Japanese soaking pool, while work on the wedding chapel upgrade is already well underway and due to debut this July.

The new recreation center will include indoor and outdoor pools, sand volleyball courts, ice skating rinks, a basketball court, a mini golf course, a fitness center and yoga studio, and a "cornhole stadium."

Grand View owners, Cote Family Destinations, is also investing improvements into its two summer camps in Nisswa, Camp Lincoln (for boys) and Camp Lake Hubert (for girls).

Lincoln will be getting a new indoor recreation center, while Lake Hubert will get improvements to its kitchen and dining facilities.
