New Avid hotel chain proposes first Milwaukee area location in Waukesha near Good Harvest Market

A new hotel chain is planning to open its first Milwaukee area location in Waukesha, according to plans filed with the city.

The Avid hotel chain is proposing a four-story, 95-room development near the southwest corner of Meadow Lane and Marshview Street.

That vacant site is southeast of Good Harvest Market, 2205 Silvernail Road. Good Harvest in December announced its own development plans for another nearby site.

InterContinental Hotels Group opened the first Avid hotel in the Quail Springs, Oklahoma, a suburb of Oklahoma City, in August.

InterContinental has four additional Avid hotels under construction in Oklahoma, Indiana and Monona, Wisconsin, at 900 W. Broadway.

All are expected to open by early 2020.

The hotels are designed with what InterContinental calls "an open and airy retail-like entry," as well as vibrant communal areas for guests. The hotel amenities include fitness centers.

Avid guest rooms feature dedicated workspaces, enhanced Wi-Fi and 50-inch TVs which can show entertainment options cast from smartphones.

The Avid niche emphasizes "modern architecture, efficient amenities and an exceptional sleep experience," according to the Waukesha proposal.

Those plans were filed by Oconomowoc-based MSI General Corp., which would design and build the Waukesha hotel.

The Waukesha Plan Commission is to review the hotel proposal at its March 27 meeting.

InterContinental's other brands include Holiday Inn, Staybridge Suites, Crowne Plaza and Candlewood Suites.
