Recently Debuted Gaylord Rockies Hotel Is Already Expanding

Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center

Colorado's 1,501-room Gaylord Rockies Hotel and Convention Center -- which is just over a year old, having opened in December 2018 -- is already adding to its rooms inventory. At a cost of $80 million, the property is adding another 317 guest rooms, for a total of 1,818, with a projected opening date of early 2022.

The Aurora property, with views of the Rocky Mountain Foothills, is selling stronger than projected. The hotel recently closed the third quarter of 2019 with nearly 1.2 million net group room nights on the books for future years, a 7.4 percent year-over-year increase.

"The initial performance at Gaylord Rockies has exceeded our expectations for a property in its first year of operations, and feedback from both group and leisure customers has been tremendous," said Colin Reed, chairman and CEO of Ryman Hospitality Properties, which is a joint-venture owner of the property. "These early results, combined with the increasing levels of demand we are experiencing across our portfolio as large group supply remains constrained nationwide, reinforce our belief that this is the right time to increase the capacity of this hotel."

The Gaylord, on 85 acres just 10 minutes from Denver International Airport, welcomes events of all sizes with 486,000 square feet of meeting space; eight food-and-beverage outlets; a 17-room spa and salon; a fitness center; a 75-foot viewing screen for game-day celebrations; and a 22,000-square-foot swimming complex that includes indoor and outdoor pools, a lazy river and three water slides. An arcade, miniature golf, bike rentals and pickleball also are available on site.
