First look inside Westin Hotel in downtown Milwaukee

The new Westin Milwaukee hotel is opening June 1.

The hotel will open ahead of schedule, as it was planned to open in late June, just ahead of Summerfest's 50th anniversary festival.

This will be the first Westin-branded hotel in Wisconsin.

“(It’s going to be the) closest hotel to the lakefront, closest hotel to Summerfest, closest to the business district, first off the highway," said Jeff Hess, general manager. "It’s got a lot of really, really positive things going for it."

The nine-story, 220-room hotel is being developed by Milwaukee-based Jackson Street Holdings on East Michigan Street, near the U.S. Bank Center, 777 E. Wisconsin Ave. The hotel will connect to both the U.S. Bank Center and the 833 East office building, 833 E. Michigan St.

The hotel also will include Italian-American steakhouse Stella Van Buren that will open June 1. The restaurant is a collaboration between Lettuce Entertain You Consulting Group and White Lodging Services Corp.

Stella Van Buren will combine elements of a “classic Italian kitchen with American steakhouse influences,” and will also feature a large wine and bourbon selection, the company said.

Located along Van Buren Street, Stella Van Buren will feature 45 tables in the restaurant and 50 seats in the bar.

The Westin Milwaukee is positioning itself as the only hotel in the Milwaukee market specifically focused on wellness and rejuvenation. As part of these efforts, the Westin will be partnering with local organizations that focus on an outdoor lifestyle, and will be promoting the use of nearby lakefront parks. Conde Nast Traveler, in highlighting Milwaukee as a "city to watch" in 2017, called out the Westin as one of the notable up-and-coming hospitality offerings in the city.
