Ed Bucholtz, general manager of the downtown Denver Colorado hotel, Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center is the recipient of the 2012 Hyatt Hotels & Resorts Donald N.Pritzker Award of Excellence. The award was presented to Bucholtz by Hyatt Chief Executive Officer Mark Hoplamazian at the annual General Managers’ Meeting in Tampa, Florida.
The Donald N. Pritzker Award was established in 1979 to honor Hyatt’s most outstanding General Managers. Criteria for winning the award includes overall achievement in the financial success of the hotel, customer and meeting planner satisfaction, creation of a positive work environment as evidenced by an employee opinion survey and the overall display of leadership qualities that are valued by Hyatt.
Bucholtz joined the Denver community more than eight years ago when he was appointed general manager of the 516 room Grand Hyatt Denver. In 2008, he moved just two blocks down the street to assume the position of general manager of the 1,100 room Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center. Prior to coming to the Mile High City, Bucholtz was the general manager of Hyatt Regency Tampa, Hyatt Charlotte and Hyatt Regency Atlanta Suites. His background in the industry totals more than 25 years, bringing with it an exceptional understanding of Hyatt brand’s product and service standards. These are the qualities that make him a valuable leader and recipient of Hyatt Hotels’ highest recognition.
At Hyatt Regency Denver, under Bucholtz’ leadership, the hotel had garnered innumerable industry accolades to include Meetings & Conventions Magazine Gold Key Award 2012 and Successful Meetings Magazine Pinnacle Award 2012 simultaneously, consumer recognitions such as Orbitz Best in Stay and Travelocity Excellence Award 2012; employee nods with the Denver Business Journal’s Best Places to Work award and even an acknowledgement for Peaks Lounge as 5280 Magazine’s Best Hotel Bar. In 2012, Hyatt Regency Denver was a finalist for the Conde Nast Traveler World Saver Award.
Hyatt Catering Team of the Year 2012. Additionally, Hyatt awarded Hyatt Regency Denver’s catering staff Catering Team of the Year. For the second time in five years, the group, led by Monica Cheeks, CMP, Senior Director of Catering and Convention Services, received the award in the large hotel category (600 plus rooms) for their outstanding commitment to customer service in meeting planning and Denver catering and overall professionalism.
Hyatt Regency Denver’s Excellence in Community Engagement
Hyatt Regency Denver is also the winner of the Hyatt Hotels and Resorts “Excellence in Community Engagement” for their ongoing programs aimed at bettering the community in which they live. Hyatt acknowledged the staff of Hyatt Regency Denver for two programs in particular: their involvement with providing job training and career pathways for people with disabilities and who are refugees and may not otherwise have had the opportunity, and for their grassroots fund raising efforts, donating more than $20,000 for United Way’s education initiatives.
