Global Meetings Industry Day Is Almost Here

Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) will be held on Thurs., April 14, 2016, and the Meetings Mean Business Coalition has put together a calendar of official events for those in the meetings industry. The event is an expansion of the North American Meetings Industry Day (NAMID), which launched in 2015.

The day was modeled after National Meetings Industry Day (NMID) in Canada, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and started as a way to raise awareness of issues important to the meetings industry and to celebrate the industry as a whole and keep track of where it’s going next in an ever-evolving marketplace.

Meetings Today contributor Ruth A. Hill previously covered how the day got started in Canada, last year’s event and what it meant to those who were organizing and attending in an article she wrote about NAMID in 2015.

Last year’s gatherings even tackled some of the discrimination issues that arose in states such as Indiana, which passed a controversial religious freedom bill that was later amended. It’s possible similar legislation passed in North Carolina will be up for discussion, along with other possible threats to the industry.

If you plan on attending an event on GMID, let us know in the comments below. Also feel free to discuss what you would like to see implemented at these events to make them more valuable.
