Hard Rock Hotel & Casino earns rare four-diamond rating from AAA

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The Hard Rock Hotel Sioux City is the fourth hotel in Iowa, currently, to boast a four-diamond rating from AAA. It's one of AAA's most prestigious ratings. Of the 28,000 hotels approved by AAA, not even five-and-a-half percent can say they earn the rating.

Todd Moyer is the General Manager of the Hard Rock Hotel Sioux City. He says it's a huge honor to earn the recognition but it's not just about the hotel. "It's really more of a service award where it recognizes all the great work that our team does," he says.

If you've never been inside one of the 54 hotel rooms, 12 of which are suites, you might be surprised at how they are designed. "No two rooms are alike because we had to build around this unique structure," said Moyer. Some rooms, like the suite KTIV was shown, are decked in rock n' roll posters, old stereo equipment, lighted make-up mirrors, safes in every room and 24-hour room service.

Looking at the lobby, you couldn't tell now, but trains used to chug through it in the early 1900's. With the rating, management says you could possibly see bigger names passing through more often now. "Let's call it picky performers that will only stay at the best hotels and they require things like 24-hour room service and certain amenities that we do offer here," said Moyer.

The Hard Rock Hotel Sioux City's four-diamond rating joins rare company. It joins The Hotel at Kirkwood Center in Cedar Rapids, the Ameristar Hotel/Casino in Council Bluffs and The Hotel Blackhawk in Davenport as hotels with the rating. No hotel in Iowa has a Five Diamond Rating.

With four hotels with a four-diamond rating, that's twice as many as Nebraska has and four times more than South Dakota, which has none.

Moyer says it's something that helps Sioux City and makes it stand out in the tri-state region and could bode well for future tourists impact on the local economy. "They're gonna go down to historic fourth street to have a great meal [and] they're gonna go out and shop," said Moyer.

AAA's website says for a hotel to earn the rating it must be "refined, stylish with upscale physical attributes, extensive amenities and a high degree of hospitality, service and attention to detail." Moyer also added it must have access to a restaurant that has earned a AAA three-diamond rating, which the Main & Abbey restaurant inside the casino has earned as well.

Prices do vary but a night at the hotel, as of Tuesday, could run you $119 to $240 roughly a night, depending on the different room options.
