Minnesota Opera's Silent Night Receives International Opera Awards Nomination

Minnesota Opera

Minnesota Opera’s world premiere production of Silent Night has been nominated for the International Opera Awards. Silent Night composer Kevin Puts won the Pulitzer Prize in Music in 2012 for Silent Night, and we are honored that the Minnesota Opera production is nominated for the category of “World Premiere.”

Opera Magazine received 1,500 nominations from 41 countries which have been judged by a panel of experts.  Minnesota Opera is one of only three American companies to be nominated in the 22 categories, and the only American company nominated in the World Premiere category.

The awards ceremony will take place on April 22, 2013, in London.  Artistic Director Dale Johnson will be attending for Minnesota Opera.

Silent Night marked the first commission and fourth production of Minnesota Opera’s groundbreaking New Works Initiative, a multi-year program designed to infuse the operatic art form with new commissions and revivals of contemporary American works.
