Monona Terrace, Osthoff Resort among governor's tourism honorees

The Monona Terrace Convention Center in Madison and the general manager of The Osthoff Resort in Elkhart Lake were among the recipients of the annual Governor’s Tourism Awards given out Tuesday.

The awards closed out the annual Wisconsin Governor’s Conference on Tourism, held this year in Lake Geneva. Gov. Scott Walker handed out the awards, chosen from 28 nominations, according to a news release. Here are the winners:

Legacy Award: Lola Roeh, general manager of The Osthoff Resort - Roeh has been manager since 1998 of the Osthoff, a AAA four-diamond resort.

Rising Star award: Michelle Voight, executive director of the Washburn County Tourism Association - Voight has created and implemented a three-year marketing plan for Washburn County, including a new website, interactive kiosk, online marketing and advertising focused on winter and all-terrain vehicles.

Stewardship Award: Pinehurst Inn, Bayfield - Pinehurst was one of the first certified members of Travel Green Wisconsin when the program launched in 2007.

Service Excellence Award: Monona Terrace Convention Center - The center is one of a few convention centers in the nation that serves more than 50,000 people with more than 500 programs.

Arts, Culture and Heritage Award: Peninsula Players Theatre, Fish Creek - The Door County company is America’s oldest professional resident summer theater.
