Shooting Star celebrates 20-year anniversary; Vizenor to speak Tuesday

Shooting Star Casino, Hotel and Event Center kicked off its 20th anniversary celebration by hosting White Earth Nation Chairwoman and speaker, Erma J. Vizenor, on Tuesday, May 1. The celebration will began at 5 p.m., with Dr. Vizenor speaking at 6 p.m., and included complimentary cake and champagne (while supplies lasted) for all guests.

Vizenor is the first woman to lead the largest tribe in Minnesota. In 1997, she was elected Secretary/Treasurer of the White Earth Reservation, and in 2004, she was elected to the prestigious position of chairwoman. She has shown her commitment to building a strong infrastructure within the White Earth Reservation, which is necessary in order to exercise sovereignty, self-governance and service to the tribal citizens.

Over the span of her entire career, Vizenor has supported education on the White Earth Reservation. She holds multiple degrees including an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education, a master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling and a specialist degree in Education Administration from Minnesota State University Moorhead. Following these academic successes, she earned another master’s degree and a doctoral degree in Administration, Planning and Social Policy from Harvard University.
