The Edgewater in Madison, Wis., Completes $100M Restoration

The Edgewater
After undergoing a $100-million restoration and expansion, The Edgewater is now open to guests in Madison, Wisconsin.

Situated on the southern shore of Lake Mendota, the 202-room historic property sits at the doorstep of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and within minutes of the state Capitol and its historic square.
What's New?

New additions include the Wisconsin Building hotel tower, two ballrooms, multiple indoor and outdoor event spaces, several dining options, a spa and a one-acre public plaza. The hotel now also has a 90-foot interactive media wall consisting of a collage of video monitors, backlit still photographs and display vitrines containing historic artifacts. Guests can select the stories to be displayed on the wall, including those about Madison’s history and The Edgewater. Stories are told through photo galleries on the wall’s video monitors.

The three buildings have 202 guestrooms, two presidential suites and 10 studios with kitchenettes–all with lake, Capitol and city views. Located on the 12th floor of the Wisconsin Building, the two suites have radial glass walls with a panoramic view of Lake Mendota. Each suite has a dining room, living room, bedroom, travertine tile and marble bathroom with a walk-in shower and soaking tub as well as an additional guest bathroom.
Food & Beverage

The property's F&B options include The Statehouse, The Statehouse Bar, The Café, The Icehouse and The Boathouse. Executive chef Thomas Welther serves American cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner, offering local and regional ingredients. The adjoining Statehouse Bar offers cocktails, a wine list and Wisconsin craft beers.

Guests can enter through the brick arches at the base of the plaza’s grand staircase to access The Icehouse. It was built to serve as a food hall, which holds several serving stations and a full bar. One wall in the Icehouse will provide views through glass to the keg room’s beer storage.

For a more casual atmosphere, The Café will serve up coffee, pastries and food for on-the-go. It will have a custom-designed central table with customized touch-screen technology for guests to sit at and use the interactive scrapbook that connects visitors to the media wall, their time on The Plaza and other venues at the hotel. Lastly, The Boathouse will offer Wisconsin fare alongside the waterfront in the spring. Outside the bar and grill will rest a 150-foot pier planned for the summer of 2015.

Event Space

The hotel’s revamped design offers 45,000 square feet of meeting and special event space with a variety of function venues for meetings, galas, weddings and more. The hotel's Grand Ballroom has 6,150 square feet of event space and 16-foot windows with views of Lake Mendota. The Veranda is located outside The Grand Ballroom and provides an outdoor setting overlooking the lake, while the Nolen Gallery can serve as a pre-function space to the main celebration. For more intimate event spaces, The Mendota Ballroom accommodates 20 to 120 guests, and The Madison Room can host bridal showers, board meetings and other smaller events for 16 to 24 people. Other event spaces include the 15th-story Sky Bar atop the Wisconsin Building with views of the Capitol and Lake Mendota in Madison, as well as the Red Crown Club atop the Langdon Building.
