Prairie Island Indian Community Donates Matching Funds

Treasure Island Resort & Casino

The Prairie Island Indian Community and the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Minnesota Wild have partnered during the 2012-2013 hockey season and youth hockey across the state came out the winner again. A check in the amount of $70,584 was presented by the Prairie Island Indian Community Tribal Council to Minnesota Hockey and the MSE Community Giving Fund.

The Prairie Island Indian Community pledged to match all dollars raised through the sales of Wild game programs during the season. The Minnesota Wild has been working with youth hockey game program sales since the club’s inception in 2000. All proceeds raised through the sale of game programs by youth hockey teams were donated to Minnesota Hockey and the MSE Community Giving Fund.

“When we approached the Minnesota Wild with an idea for a partnership, we couldn’t imagine the program would be so successful,” said Johnny Johnson, Prairie Island Indian Community Tribal Council President. “The Wild’s support of youth programs closely match the Prairie Island Indian’s Community mission of working with youth and helping them develop leadership and life skills.”

At the same Minnesota Wild Game, a second check presentation in the amount of $10,000 was made by the Prairie Island Indian Community to Minnesota Disabled Hockey.

The Prairie Island Indian Community has long been a tremendous supporter of youth hockey throughout Minnesota.  Over the last four years, their donations to Minnesota Disabled Hockey have helped it become the largest hockey program for people with disabilities in the nation. Minnesota Disabled Hockey provides sled hockey for those with physical disabilities, special hockey for those with developmental disabilities, and a Warriors program for injured veterans.

Prairie Island Indian Community has played a major role in making it possible for every person in Minnesota, regardless of disability, to play hockey.

Prairie Island Indian Community and Treasure Island Resort & Casino have placed great value in supporting charitable organizations. It is important to give back to the communities and people who have helped the Prairie Island Indian Community grow.

Since 1994, the Prairie Island Indian Community, a federally recognized Indian Nation, has donated more than $16 million to a variety of civic and non-profit organizations. The Prairie Island Indian Community owns and operates Treasure Island Resort & Casino, Mount Frontenac Golf Course and Dakota Station, located just south of Hastings, Minnesota.
