West Des Moines, IA. West Des Moines city leaders have revealed updated plans for the Grand Experience, a $400 million indoor water park and hotel complex that spans 226 acres across two sites near the MidAmerican RecPlex on Grand Avenue.
The northern site will include a 142-room hotel, a convention center, parking, and residential housing, while the western site will feature the original indoor water park, another hotel, and a newly announced 6,000-seat covered amphitheater. The updated plans also include space for restaurants, retail, and additional housing.
“So it’s going to be multi-use. It’s going to be something that I think is going to get a ton of use by West Des Moines residents. And not only that, but everybody in the region is going to be able to enjoy that amphitheater for years and years to come. And same with the water park as well,” said West Des Moines Mayor Russ Trimble.
The West Des Moines City Council is scheduled to vote on the updated Grand Experience development plan during a special meeting Friday morning. If approved, construction could begin next year, with the entire project potentially taking up to 10 years to complete.
